During the winter and spring, a variety of whales and dolphins inhabit the waters around Chacala including Humpbacks, Bryde's, Orcas, and more. The bay is also an important breeding ground for species such as the Humpback whale. During November through March, the Humpback whales pass by Chacala to give birth to their young in the calm waters.
Local fishermen offer whale watching boat services and can take you to the best viewing locations.
